The airline was established in 1993 and its first flight went operational on 18 November 1996. Air Asia Food and Entertainment
Air Asia does not provide any complementary meals to its passengers. However, it does offer its passengers options to purchase food and drinks on board. In compliance with Islamic Shariah, consumption of alcohol and pork is strictly prohibited in Air Asia group flights, with exception of Air Asia X flights.
Similarly, no free entertainment options are offered to the passengers. However, for interested individuals, one can obtain a tablet on rent in the range US$ 17 – US$ 20. The very tablet is filled with movies, magazines, music, games and other entertainment stuff.

Air Asia is ambitious to make a transition to paperless currency. It has announced initiating small loans for the customers and, in March 2018, the airway unveiled BigPay, a novel digital payment platform.
Air Asia Controversies
Air Asia has a no-refund policy and in 2014, after receiving plenty of complaints, it announced a partial refund policy for flights originating from South Korea. Such move was also triggered by South Korean government’s recommendation to amend its policies.
